Brandon Pesz had been close on many occasions. But in seeking out his first professional win, there might have not been a better location or time than last weekend.

In true storybook fashion, Pesz picked up his first-ever Pro X-treme win last weekend at the X-DRL’s Spring Nationals at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park.
The win was thrilling enough on its own, but there were a number of extra measures that made it even sweeter.

As Pesz said in the winner’s circle, he will always be part of history as the first-ever winner in the X-DRL’s quickest and fastest class at the eighth-mile sanctioning body’s debut event. But that’s just getting started.

Pesz and teammate Todd Martin, which makes up the Lethal Threat Racing team, both had strong weekends, as Martin advanced to the semifinal. Of course, Martin is also the co-owner of Tulsa Raceway Park, adding another memorable layer to one of the best weekends in Pesz’s career.

“To get your first win like this, it’s just a great feeling. It’s been a long time coming to get that first one,” Pesz said. “We were running strong at the end of last year and I knew we would be strong this year.

“It’s great to start out like this, especially at the first event and at your home track. Nobody else can be the first to win in the X-DRL and to have that come at your home track is even better.”

The celebration started immediately after Pesz picked up his first win in the class with a hard-fought 3.769 at 198.88 mph against Tim Tindle in his Garrett Race Cars Camaro. Martin’s family and Pesz’s family celebrated on the starting line, joining the talented Pesz soon after.

Pesz finished as the No. 2 qualifier with a 3.73 and then worked hard throughout eliminations, running a 3.75 in the quarterfinals and knocking off Martin in the semifinals. But nothing came easy on a day where Pesz certainly earned his paycheck.

“The car was all over the track. I really had to drive it today, but it’s fulfilling knowing at the end of the day you really had to earn it,” Pesz said.

“I wasn’t 100 percent confident going into the final and we really had the car backed down a lot. I had to drive it, but it was all worth it.”

Pesz’s eye-catching wrap from Kryptonite Kustomz, a new X-DRL sponsor, was a show-stealer as well, and the good news didn’t stop there for Pesz, who also thanked the likes of LAT Racing Oil, an X-DRL sponsor, and others.

Three of Martin’s and Pesz’s clients in his Lethal Acceleration Racing business advanced to the semifinals in Tulsa, giving the team plenty of momentum heading into the upcoming X-DRL Thunder Valley Madness on April 26-27 at historic Bristol Dragway.

Of course, Pesz would like nothing more than to continue his hot streak in the middle of doorslammer country and keep rolling in the X-DRL’s inaugural season.

“I knew we were going to come out strong and running well, and it’s an awesome feeling to start off like this,” Pesz said. “Hopefully we can keep it going.”
