Incredible performances ruled the day on Friday during eliminations of Round 1 of the Arabian Drag Racing League, and three familiar names ended up victorious at the Qatar Racing Club.
Frankie Taylor went 3.559 at 214 mph to win in Pro Extreme, while Mike Castellana won in Pro Nitrous, going 3.72 at 200 mph for the quickest and fastest nitrous run in drag racing history. Todd Tutterow added a victory in Outlaw 10.5 as fans were treated to one spectacular run after another in Qatar.
Taking momentum from his incredible qualifying performance, Taylor knocked off Von Smith in the first round of eliminations before meeting Joey Martin in the finals. Taylor followed with the quickest run of his career, reaching 214 mph for the second straight day.
Meanwhile, Castellana had a day he will never forget as the two-time world champion posted two runs of 3.72, also topping 200 mph on both occasions. He went 3.721 at 200.74 to reach the finals and those marks became the new world records when Castellana followed with a 3.728 at 200.23 mph in the finals. It’s the first time any nitrous driver reached the 3.72 mark, as Castellana shattered the previous record of 3.74.
Tutterow picked up his win in Outlaw 10.5 by going 4.25 at 162 mph in the finals to knock off Tim Lynch.
Round 2 of the Arabian Drag Racing League takes place next Thursday and Friday in Qatar.
