Purse for this class is $4,150/event and broken down as follows:

Winner: $1,250

Runner Up: $800

Semi (x2): $350

Quarter (x4): $150

Qualifier (x8): $100

DESIGNATION: PJD followed by car number. Numbers must be at least 4” tall and displayed on both sides of the vehicle.

FIELD: 16 car qualified field.

COMPETITION: 7.90 index, qualifying based on elapsed time, 0.500 pro tree, deep staging prohibited.

PARTICIPANT: For  any  racer  between  the  ages  of  13-18,  both  the  racer  and  his  or  her  parent  or  guardian  are  a “participant” and are bound by all provisions of these posted rules, and in any administrative or disciplinary process, the parent and/or legal guardian shall participate in administrative or disciplinary process and be responsible for any penalty or other matter in connection therewith.

WEIGHT: Minimum weight (without driver) is 225 pounds. All rules subject to change at the sole discretion of the X-DRL Technical Services Department.

REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIFICATIONS

BODY

AIR FOILS, WINGS: Wings must be bolted to frame structure. Ball lock pins and other quick-release fasteners prohibited. No rear wing may be supported with struts, rods, etc. attached to the roll cage. All rear wing supports must attach to the framerails at least 12” behind the roll cage.

BODY: Body and cowl must be constructed of aluminum, fiberglass, or carbon fiber and extend forward to foot-box bulkhead. Driver compartment, frame structure, roll cage, and body must be designed to prevent driver’s body or limbs from making contact with wheels, tires, exhaust system, or track surface. Maximum front end overhang of 15” as measured from centerline of front spindle. All new cars must be accepted by the X-DRL competition department prior to construction.

DEFLECTOR PLATE: Minimum 1/16-inch aluminum Deflector plate must be installed between roll cage and engine extending from lower frame rail to the top of driver’s helmet. Portion between shoulder hoop and top of helmet must be minimum 7” wide.

FLOOR: Full floor, mounted on top of lower frame rail cross braces, extending from driver’s seat forward to 6” past pedals is required.

TAIL LIGHT: Functional rear tail light is required.

WIND DEFLECTOR: Wind screen or deflector constructed from lexan, plexiglass or other shatterproof material required. Must be a minimum of 4” tall.  

CHASSIS

BATTERIES: Dry cell batteries only. Maximum total weight 5 pounds. Must be securely mounted outside driver’s compartment. An external master electrical shut off clearly labeled “ON and OFF” is required.

BRAKES: Rear-wheel disc brakes are required.

CHASSIS: Standard dragster configuration with minimum 5-point roll cage mandatory. Roll cage must extend at least 3” in front of the driver’s helmet when in driving position. Helmet bars (3/4-inch OD x .058-inch chrome-moly tubing ) are required between the secondary upper roll cage hoop and the upper roll cage rear braces on each side of the car.

FOOT-BOX BULKHEAD: All cars must be equipped with a bulkhead in front of the driver’s feet, minimum .024-inch steel, .032-inch aluminum, or .060-inch carbon fiber. Bulkhead must be directly in front of or directly behind foot-box diagonal.

GROUND CLEARANCE: Minimum of 3” required from whatever portion of the vehicles body or chassis that breaks staging beam to 12” behind front axle centerline. Minimum of 2” for remainder of vehicle.

SUSPENSION: Suspension with a maximum upward travel 2” permitted.

TIRES: Rear tires minimum 18-inch diameter by 7 ½” wide, manufacturer, model and size information must be clearly designated.

WHEEL BASE: Minimum 90″, Maximum 150”. Maximum variation is 2” side to side.

WHEELIE BARS: Permitted, non-metallic wheels required.

WHEELS: Front wheels minimum 5” in diameter; minimum spindle diameter 1/2-inch. Rear Wheels minimum 8” in diameter.

DRIVELINE AND ENGINE

CARBURETORS: Required. Fuel injection prohibited.

CHAIN GUARD: Required, Must cover entire length and width of drive chain.

CLUTCH: Maximum one dry centrifugal-type engine clutch. Chain or belt drive only. Axle clutches prohibited. Clutch cover/guard that provides 180-degree coverage over the top of the entire clutch plate, cover, hat, arms, springs, etc. required. A clutch/crank support is required on any car running 9.99 or quicker.

ENGINE: Maximum of one rear-mounted engine. Engine must be based on a five horsepower, single-cylinder four-cycle engine from a recognized OEM or aftermarket supplier. Must retain original five-horsepower engine block configuration. Superchargers and/or turbochargers prohibited.

EXHAUST: No part of the tailpipe may extend more than 27” past exhaust attachment point on rear of engine block. Outlet must be directed rearward, away from driver and engine. Mufflers permitted.

FUEL: Gasoline, alcohol, or Gasohol permitted. Nitrous oxide, propylene oxide and nitromethane prohibited. No fuel additives or power enhancers allowed.

FUEL SYSTEM: Fuel tank must be located behind driver, below the shoulder hoop of roll cage. Maximum capacity of fuel tank or cell is 1 gallon.

FLYWHEEL: Aftermarket billet flywheel or aftermarket flywheel shield required. Cast aluminum flywheel prohibited.

STARTER: Pull-rope or remote start required. Any driver activated starting system prohibited.

TRANSMISSION: Gear-type prohibited. Torque converter belt assembly units permitted. 

ELECTRIC MOTORS

MOTOR: A maximum of one (1) rear mounted electric motor in the conventional location allowed. If exposed it must be shielded with .024” steel, .032” aluminum or .120” Lexan.

BATTERIES: All batteries must be completely sealed and isolated from the driver’s compartment. Batteries may not be installed above the rear drive tires and must be contained completely inside the chassis. High current wiring may not be installed in the driver’s compartment and must be isolated from the chassis. Wet batteries prohibited. Batteries must be installed so as to withstand a force four times (vertical) and eight times (horizontal) the weight of the battery pack, and each battery or battery pack must be secured with bolts and straps commensurate with the size and weight of the battery (see chart).

FUSING/CIRCUIT BREAKER: All battery packs must utilize a fuse or circuit breaker as over-current protection. DC rating must be equal to or greater than the nominal pack voltage. Current rating must be lower than master disconnect, wiring, and battery pack can carry without damage. Battery sub-packs must be individually fused.

IGNITION: All vehicles must be equipped with a switch, attached to driver with a lanyard, capable of shutting off all power to motor. Switch may actuate relay or contactor. Solid state switch prohibited. A flashing yellow light must be affixed to top of roll cage indicating when electrical system is energized.

MASTER CUTOFF: All vehicles must incorporate a master electrical disconnect switch that must disable all electrical functions. Switch must disconnect all power from the motor. Switch may actuate relay or contact0r.

RECHARGING: Batteries may be recharged in pits or other designated areas only. Polarized plug connection to battery pack from charger mandatory.

VOLTAGE: Maximum permitted operational voltage 144 volts nominal. Voltage checked at battery pack. No load using digital voltmeter. Maximum fully charged battery-pack voltage 156 volts.

 MISCELLANEOUS

CREDENTIALS: A valid X-DRL membership and X-DRL, NHRA or IHRA license is required. Valid NHRA or IHRA competition licenses may be transferred.

COMPUTER: Prohibited.

DATA / ELECTRONICS ACQUISITION: Allowed.

TOW VEHICLES: Allowed. A valid driver’s license is required to operate any type of tow vehicle. All passengers must be seated inside of vehicle with all doors closed. Riding in open hatchback, trunk or cargo area not allowed. ATV’s are allowed with a maximum of one passenger who must be seated at all times. Golf carts are allowed with a maximum of three passengers who must be seated at all times. Posted pit speeds must be obeyed at all times. If pit speed is not posted, maximum pit speed will be 10 mph.

Jr. Dragsters are not allowed to be under power outside of designated racing areas at any time. Driving of Jr. Dragster in pit area strictly prohibited and will subject participant to disciplinary action

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

ARM RESTRAINTS: Mandatory. Must be worn and adjusted so that the driver’s hands and arms cannot be extended outside of roll cage.

DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM: SFI Spec. 16.1 certification required

HEAD AND NECK RESTRAINT: Required, must be commercially produced neck collar designed for racing.

HELMET: A full-face helmet meeting Snell 2005 or SFI 24.1, 24.1/2005, 31.1, 31.2, 31.2A, 31.1/2005, 41.1, 41.2, 41.2A, or 41.1/2005 helmet and shield mandatory.

MASTER ELECTRICAL CUTOFF: Required. Must be clearly labeled “ON and OFF”.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING: A driver’s jacket and pants meeting SFI Spec. 3.2A/1 required. Shoes, socks and gloves are mandatory.

ROLL BAR PADDING: Required wherever the roll cage may come in contact with the driver’s helmet.

UPHOLSTERY: Optional.

USE OF SAFTEY EQUIPMENT: Seat belts must be worn and adjusted in such a manner that the driver’s torso and head cannot extend outside the parameters of the roll cage. Drivers are also required to properly use safety equipment until the vehicle exits the racing surface and the vehicle is no longer moving. Seat belts, arm restraints, helmets, gloves, neck collars, and face shields must be worn until the vehicle has been shut off. Violators will be subject to disciplinary action at the sole and absolute discretion of X-DRL.

RACE PROCEDURES

 AGE RESTRICTIONS: 13-18 year old drivers only. Competition is designed to be conducted on a heads up, 0.500s Pro Tree with a 7.90 index. Qualifying will be based on elapsed time closest to the index without breaking out. If you run faster than the index (7.90 seconds) during qualifying you will be placed in the back of the field. DEEP STAGING PROHIBITED.

PER INSURANCE REGULATIONS: Any competitor running an E.T. quicker than 7.50 seconds in the eighth-mile or faster the 85.00 mph at any time during eliminations will be disqualified from the event. Any competitor running an E.T. quicker than 7.50 seconds in the eighth-mile or faster the 89.99 mph at any time during qualifying will be disqualified from the event.

 BREAKOUT RULES

Breakout rules are enforced as follows: Contestants who race below the posted index during eliminations are disqualified, with the following exceptions:

  1. When an opponent foul starts or crosses a boundary line.
  2. On a single run.
  3. When both drivers run under the index, the driver who is the least under is the winner.
  4. If two contestants run under the index by the same margin (with elapsed times extended to a thousandth of a second), the driver crossing the finish line first is the winner.
