Another new X-DRL class and this one promises to deliver plenty of fast times and thrilling action.

 

Purse for this class is $7,950/event and broken down as follows:

Winner: $2,500

Runner Up: $1,250

Semi: $500

Quarter: $300

2nd Round Loser: $250

DESIGNATION: T/D or Top Dragster followed by car number. Numbers must be at least 4” tall and on both sides of the vehicle. Dial-In must be clearly visible from Race Control and on both sides of the car.

FIELD: 32 car qualified field based on elapsed time.

TREE: .500 Full Tree, no blinders and crosstalk enabled.

DIAL-IN: Maximum dial-in 1 (one) tenth of a second slower (+0.10) than the #32 qualifiers ET (minimum dial-in3.50,maximum dial-in 4.99).

No minimum weight or maximum cubic inch limit.

All rules subject to change at the sole discretion of the X-DRL Technical Services Department.

REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIFICATIONS

 BODY

BELLY PAN: Allowed. Pan must extend beyond the leading edge of the engine and any accessories. The front edge of the pan must have a 2” lip.

BODY: Body and cowl may be constructed of metal, fiberglass, or carbon fiber and must extend forward to firewall. Altered entries must use a reproduction pre-1949 roadster or pre-1949 open (front) wheeled X-DRL accepted body. Drivers compartment, fame structure, roll bars, and body must be constructed to prevent drivers body or limbs from contact with wheels, tires, exhaust or track surface. If drivers body is in contact with belly pan, a crossmember and subfloor are required. Front overhang maximum 30” from forward most spindle center.

DEFLECTOR PLATE: Required on all rear engine entries. Must be instilled between the roll cage and engine to protect driver. Minimum thickness .125” Aluminum or .060” Steel.

FIREWALL: Magnesium or composite prohibited. All firewalls must be made of steel or titanium(.024 minimum) or aluminum (.032-inch minimum).

FLOORS: Replacing stock floors with .024″ steel, .032″ aluminum or .024” titanium allowed. X-DRL approved flame retardant carbon fiber accepted.

TAIL LIGHT: Functional rear tail light is required.

WINDSHIELD: May use .125 minimum polycarbonate material, such as Lexan MR 4000 or equivalent.

CHASSIS

BATTERY: Maximum of two batteries allowed. All batteries must be securely fastened using metal fasteners. Batteries  (including battery box) must weigh less than 100 lbs. Must have an external master mechanical electrical disconnect at the rear or vehicle marked “PUSH OFF”.

BRAKES: Minimum of two rear wheel hydraulic brakes required. Master cylinder must be mounted above frame rail. If equipped with a Hand Brake it must be located inside the body inside the driver’s compartment. Steel brake lines are mandatory and must be shielded when passing by the engine.

CHASSIS: Rear engine dragster must be SFI Spec. 2.1, 2.3MN or 2.5B. Front engine dragster must be SFI Spec. 2.2B or 2.4B.  Altereds must be SFI Spec 10.1E, 10.2, with current NHRA certification tag prior to competition.

DRIVER LOCATION: Left hand or Center drive permitted.

GROUND CLEARANCE: Minimum of 3” required from front of car to 12” behind front axle centerline, 2” minimum for remainder of car.

STEERING: SFI Spec. 42.1 steering wheel disconnect required. Must be designed to prevent steering shaft from injuring driver during frontal impact. Shaft must be attached to steering box with a positive locking device; i.e., no rolled/pressed pins.

SUSPENSION: Any automotive suspension allowed. Rigid mounted rear axles allowed. Rigid mounted front axles allowed if wheelbase is 120” or longer. A device must prevent the oilpan from contacting the racing surface during chassis flex or tire/wheel failure. Any front suspension using a beam or tubular axle must have radius rod ends attached to the frame. Radius rods not required on front axles that are rigidly mounted 18” or less from kingpin.

PINION SUPPORT: Mandatory that all entries have a rear axle and or pinion housing anti-rotation device of a rigid design attached directly from the frame or suitable crossmember to either the rear axle housing or pinion housing in a manner to prevent rotation in either direction for unsuspended rearends

WHEEL BASE: Rear Engine Dragster: Minimum: 150” – Maximum: 300”

Front Engine Dragster: Minimum: 150” – Maximum: 300”

Altered: Minimum 120” – Maximum: 150”

Maximum varation from Left to Right: 2”

WHEELIE BARS: Recommended, non metallic wheels required.

TIRES: Slicks permitted. Must be automotive type designed for racing. Tires cannot extend outside of bodyline. All tires must have manufacturer, model and or part number and size information clearly and permanently designated on sidewall. Minimum front diameter 13”.

WHEELS: Wheels meeting SFI Spec. 15.1 required. Inner Liners accepted. Maximum rear wheel width 16” measured between the inner and outer tire mounting surfaces. Use of a liner mandatory on all non bead lock wheels. Automotive type wire front wheels permitted on Dragsters only when total car weight does not exceed 1800 lbs excluding driver.

DRIVELINE AND ENGINE

FUEL: Alcohol, gasoline, methanol, ethanol and diesel allowed. The use of nitromethane, propylene oxide or other additives is  prohibited.

FUEL SYSTEM:No part of the fuel system may be mounted on the firewall or in the area of the flywheel/flexplate. Fuel lines must be isolated from drivers compartment with a subfloor or with steel braided lines where the engine is located in the rear and fuel tank is in front of the driver. Fuel tanks must have positive locking screw on cap vented outside of the body.

INTAKE MANIFOLD: An X-DRL accepted burst panel is recommended on all non-naturally aspirated vehicles.

NITROUS OXIDE: Permitted.

INDUCTION: Carburetors, fuel injection or electronic fuel injection permitted. Two return springs mandatory.

CLUTCH/FLYWHEEL: Flywheel and clutch meeting SFI Spec 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, or 1.5 certification required as per application.

DRIVELINE: Each end of driveshaft must have round 360-degree driveshaft loops within 6” of U-joints. A full 360 degree drive shaft tube is recommended over yoke, extending a minimum of 12” from transmission tailshaft manufactured from minimum .050” Chrome-moly or Titanium.

EXHAUST: Open conventional style headers permitted. Exhaust gasses must be directed out of the body and away from the driver and fuel system.  Zoomie type headers must be directed upward a minimum of 3 degrees.

HARMONIC BALANCER: SFI Spec. 18.1 certification required.

FLYWHEEL SHIELD: SFI Spec. 6.1, 6.2 or 6.3 certification required on all clutch equipped cars.

FLEXPLATE: Automatic transmission flexplate meeting SFI Spec 29.1 required.

FLEXPLATE SHEILD: SFI Spec 30.1 required. An SFI 6.1, 6.2 or 6.3 bellhousing is permitted on torque converter.

TRANSMISSION SHIELD: A one-piece transmission shield meeting SFI Spec 4.1 is required on all automatic and planetary transmissions.

REAR END: Automotive type required.  Aftermarket axles and axle retention devices required. Wheel studs must be 5/8” minimum. Titanium and or Aluminum Wheel studs prohibited.

STARTER: All entries must be self starting with onboard starter and battery. No push starts allowed.

SUPERCHARGER: Permitted, 14-71 (or smaller) standard or hi-helix supercharger. Screw supercharger prohibited. Front Engine Cars  must use an SFI 14.2 or 14.3 supercharger restraint . All other superchargered combinations require an SFI Spec. 14.1, 14.2 or 14.3 supercharger restraint. Belt guards shielding both fuel and oil lines are mandatory. Supercharger restraint straps must not place load on any fuel line when fuel extended. Aluminum studs required connecting supercharger to the manifold.

TURBOCHARGER: The use of single or dual turbochargers permitted.

TRANSMISSION: Any type allowed. All automatic transmissions must have a neutral safety start switch and reverse lockout device. One piece transmission shield meeting SFI Spec 4.1 is required on all automatic and planetary transmissions. All supercharged entries must use a torque converter assisted transmission. Clutchless transmissions limited to 5 forward gears. Planetary transmissions limited to 3 forward gears.

OIL LINES: All flexible pressurized oil lines exceeding 30 psi and excluding return lines must pass a minimum 300psi pressure test for 30 seconds without indication of separation, weeping, leaking, etc. Must be tested and tagged within 2 years of competition with date, PSI, and tester ID. All supercharged entries must have all lines routed so that they are not directly in-line with cylinder head gaskets at the front, rear or side of the cylinder heads.

VENT TUBES: Required on all supercharged engines. Must be minimum 1” diameter connection and positive locking.

THROTTLE STOPS: Mechanical, electronic, or pneumatic throttle stops prohibited. If the car has a throttle stop in place, ALL controls must be clearly disconnected.

DELAY BOX: One delay box/device is permitted; it may be attached to the transbrake, and/or shift timer only. The wire to the transbrake (or line-loc) may contain a splice that activates the two-step/launch control device in the ignition system. All wiring associated with the delay device, ignition system, automatic shifter, tachometer, data recorder, and fuel-injection system must be fully visible, labeled, and traceable.

MISCELLANEOUS

CREDENTIALS: A valid X-DRL membership, X-DRL, NHRA, or IHRA competition license is required to compete. Valid IHRA and NHRA competition licenses may be transferred when presented with a current physical.

DATA / ELECTRONICS ACQUISITION: Allowed as record only. Cannot control any function on the vehicle.

STARTING LINE ENGINE CONTROL DEVICES: Allowed.

TOW VEHICLES: Allowed. A valid driver’s license is required to operate any type of tow vehicle. All passengers must be seated inside of vehicle with all doors closed. Riding in open hatchback, trunk or cargo area not allowed. ATV’s are allowed with a maximum of one passenger who must be seated at all times. Golf carts are allowed with a maximum of three passengers who must be seated at all times. Posted pit speeds must be obeyed at all times. If pit speed is not posted, maximum pit speed will be 10 mph.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM: SFI Spec. 16.1 certification required. 7 point system recommended.

ENGINE/OIL CONTAINMENT SYSTEM: All entries must use an X-DRL accepted Carbon/Kevlar or Alum. lower engine containment system SFI Spec 7.2 required. The Carbon/Kevlar system must include the oil pump and related components, 2” high lip minumum lip on all sides, extend from forward of the harmonic balancer to the rear motor plate and be a minimum of 3” above ground. Nonflammable, oil absorbant liner required inside of containment system.

FIRE SYSTEM: Minimum 5-pound X-DRL accepted fire suppression system required on all rear engine cars with an enclosed cockpit. Supercharged or Turbocharged front engined cars must utilize a 20-pound minimum X-DRL accepted system. One nozzle required inside driver’s compartment. One or more nozzles must be directed into engine compartment. Recommended that all fire suppression be released with a single actuation (i.e. single handle, button or lever).

HEAD AND NECK RESTRAINT: SFI Spec. 38.1 required. An aluminum skid plate located above driver’s head is recommended.

HELMET: Open Bodied Naturally Aspirated Gasoline or Methanol burning entries must use a full face Snell M2000, M2005, M2010, K2005, SA2000, SA2005, SA2010, SFI Spec. 31.2A, or 41.2A helmet and shield. Goggles prohibited.

Open Bodied Front and Rear Engined Supercharged, Turbocharged, or Nitrous cars must use a full face Snell SA2000, SA2005, SA2010, or SFI Spec. 31.2A Helmet and Shield. Goggles Prohibited. EjectHelmet Removal System (Part # SDR 890-01-30) or equivalent recommended.

MASTER ELECTRICAL CUTOFF: Required. Must be clearly labeled “PUSH OFF”.

PARACHUTES: Parachute required. Separate shroud-line mounting points with 1/2” sleeved grade 8 bolts required.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING: Driver’s suit meeting SFI Spec. 3.2A/15, gloves meeting SFI Spec. 3.3/5 and shoes meeting SFI Spec. 3.3/5 required except for front engine open bodied which are supercharged or turbocharged, they require Driver’s suit meeting SFI Spec. 3.2A/20, gloves meeting SFI Spec. 3.3/15 and shoes meeting SFI Spec. 3.3/15. If a neck collar is not used, an SFI Spec 3.3 head sock or SFI Spec 3.3 skirted helmet is requred.

RF SHUTDOWN RECEIVER: Properly functioning Electrimotion shutoff device (PN: RF001PS or combination PN: SB001 and RF001) recommended, required for 2014 season .

ROLL BAR PADDING: SFI Spec. 45.1 required.

UPHOLSTERY: Any front engine supercharged or turbocharged must cover the seat in flame retardant material. Driver’s seat foamed with energy absorbing material, formed for the driver and covered with flame retardant material and Lateral helmet supports recommended, required for 2014 season.
