The X-treme Drag Racing League’s (X-DRL) first appearance to Bristol continues to get bigger. The X-DRL announced on Tuesday that Velocity by Discovery television will make its first appearance of the year for this weekend’s X-DRL Thunder Valley Madness at historic Bristol Dragway.

It is the first of several major announcements leading up to the X-DRL’s highly-anticipated event at Bristol in its inaugural season. The X-DRL’s first year will be featured on Velocity, giving the X-DRL a national television presence for its inaugural 2013 season.

Along with a full camera crew, the Velocity team at Bristol will include noted television commentator Kathy Fisher, who will be the co-host and pit reporter for Velocity’s 2013 X-DRL coverage. Fisher, who has more than 20 years of broadcasting experience, has worked as TV talent and a pit reporter for SPEED, ESPN2, Fox Sports and more, and sees plenty of potential in the X-DRL’s multi-year partnership with Velocity.

“I am really excited to be a part of the X-DRL’s television program on Velocity, and Bristol marks the perfect setting to get this partnership started,” Fisher said. “We’re thrilled about the direction of the program, and it’s going to include a lot of new ideas when it comes to presenting drag racing on the television platform.

“We’re going to be doing a lot of outside the box things when it comes to our coverage, and it’s only going to draw more eyes to the X-DRL’s incredible racing.”

The X-DRL television show will include race highlights, interviews, and much more during its 2013 season. X-DRL’s Thunder Valley Madness is the second of nine events during the inaugural campaign. Velocity by Discovery, formerly known as HD Theater and Discovery HD Theater, is currently available in nearly 50 million homes and continues to grow at a strong rate. It features more than 400 premiere hours of new and returning series and specials showcasing the best of the automotive, sports and leisure, adventure, and travel genres.

“We are extremely excited to have the X-DRL on Velocity and to have a multi-year agreement with a television partner that fully supports the X-DRL and its talented drivers,” X-DRL President Jeff Mitchell said.

“To have a major television partner in our first year is a huge thrill and a tremendous indicator of the work we have put in to make the X-DRL a success. Velocity expressed a great interest in supporting the X-DRL and the drivers who will make each event so memorable. The action-packed nature of the X-DRL will fit in perfectly with the great programming that Velocity provides as well.”
